Green light, green light, RED LIGHT!

It took a global pandemic and national economic collapse to make me realize I hadn’t a week off from business since February 2017. Well, the good news is I finally got one. On the other hand… – anyways, this winter was another busy season until – you know. I have 25 projects that float anywhere between postponed to reduced to

Asheville Art Museum – North Carolina Architectural Photography

I wasn’t trying to go rogue. Really. Okay – before getting into that, welcome to my first blog entry of 2020! I’ll go into detail about photographing the contemporary addition and renovation of the Asheville Art Museum. Firstly, thank you to the architect, Asheville-based ARCA Design for bringing me on. Deep thanks to the wonderful staff at the AAM for

Caldwell UNC Rivercrest Surgery center

Clark Patterson Lee recently finished an ambulatory surgery center for Caldwell UNC’s Rivercrest Medical Park in western North Carolina. The new building (left) steps forward and linearly pairs with the existing medical building (right) in elevation. Solo, the surgery center relies on exterior overhangs, canopies, and generous fenestration to dynamically extend the visual footprint out, while simultaneously allowing views into

Meeting Street Lofts – Charleston Architectural Photography

This summer I returned to Charleston, South Carolina for several projects, one being the Meeting Street Lofts on behalf of Cline Design in downtown, adjacent to a highway exit and overpass. Massing forms entry for retail below and community amenities above as seen prominently from the Meeting Street intersection. Inside is a two-story sales office space that leads towards other

More of 2019

I’m very behind on social media, so am again combining several projects into one posting. It was a pleasure again to work with Integrated Design on several projects including Bob Barker’s office space in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. The corridor transitions between the entrance lobby/public spaces and employee areas. The break area can be partitioned off or opened further into the

Nashville area work

In the design and construction industry, sometimes you never know when and where work comes in, and related fields such as architectural photography are no different. The first time I traveled to Nashville on assignment was in 2013 and since the area has gradually grown into a regional market.  Below is a sampling of the photographs I’ve recently photographed. EOA

The Metropolitan of Raleigh

There’s been a population explosion in most of the southern cities I work in, a sharp uptick in multifamily housing in those metros, and therefore a large percentage of my work across the country has wound up being brand new city apartments. This includes my backyard in Raleigh, North Carolina where I photographed the Metropolitan for JDavis Architects, Clancy &

Return to Texas

2019 has been bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Go ahead, try getting Gwen Stefani unstuck from your head, I dare you. I’ve returned to my old stomping grounds in Texas twice this year and likely will have at least two more visits before the 2019 is out, steadily building on some things that have been quietly in the works.  To my delight, I

Commercial interiors – Analog Devices

Didn’t need to travel far this time for this shoot, photographing inside downtown Raleigh’s Dillon for a full-floor commercial interior shoot on behalf at Analog Devices of Clark Patterson Lee.  Here’s a few photos from inside:  The entrance lobby a translucent reception desk lit blue with green wall serving as backdrop.   The spacious break room is a nice place for

Longwood University Student Success Center

I traveled up to Farmville, Virginia to Longwood University, working with Little to photograph the new Student Success Center.  The university campus, which is peppered with classical revival and neoclassical cues is undergoing quite a few changes following a long-term master plan.  The Student Success Center is directly between the university library, a modern building with pitched metal roof and

Architectural Photography: Beach Hotel and Community College Building

Last year I returned to Myrtle Beach on behalf of W.M. Jordan Company to photograph the South Bay Inn & Suites located along the beachfront.  Here you can see the hotel at sunrise with the Second Street Beach Pier in the background. The hotel lobby is located on the 3rd floor of the building, featuring check-in, restaurant & bar, coffee

What’s been happening?

I’ve been dreadful at keeping up with my blog this year! As always, there’s a diversity of projects I’ve photographed, am in the process of shooting, or am scheduled for in the upcoming year that I’m all excited about. However, first things first – one of the reasons I’ve been laggard with blogging is establashing my second business, Carolina Standard
