1.5K Jaunt: Part 1 – Exit through Camden

I recently visited my home state of New Jersey, pausing for a few stops along the way and back in a 1500 mile round trip. I was turned onto a renovated gas station in Elmer, NJ by another photographer and decided to take a side trip on the way to my parents’ house. Elevating over downtown Elmer is a large

Summer 2012 – The In Between

Woohoo, my 101st blog post! When I began this blog I was purely an amateur fine art photographer who practiced architecture as my full-time job. Four years later I’m a professional photographer who does a bit of architecture on the side. The bittersweet part of becoming professional is that I rarely get to shoot all the things I purely shoot for fun. So on the occasion I have that chance, I certainly savor the moment. It’s been a busy summer with many jobs and a lot of travel on the behalf of my clients. These are a few photos I’ve managed to capture in between.

North Carolina Architectural Photography – Natuzzi USA

Okay, so – one of my new clients is Weaver Cooke Construction. I’ve been on assignment shooting a wide range of projects for them, the most intensive was the Natuzzi USA headquarters located in downtown furniture district in High Point, North Carolina. How do I say this – it’s built like a boat. No, really – take a look for

The Stonewall Jackson School, Part 2 – We All Need Band-Aids

In the middle of February after some work-related travel, I visited the grounds of the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center in Concord. A couple of weeks later, I used more work travel as an excuse to venture inside some of the buildings (yessssssss Mary, I was careful). However I’ve been so busy that it’s taken about a month and a

The Stonewall Jackson School, Part 1 – The Forsaken

Yup yet another blog! I stumbled upon the remnants of the old Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center in Concord, North Carolina, during work travel. I typically try to take a little time to myself on my birthday but had to work that day – including traveling through this area. So as a birthday present to myself, I shot photography for

Windy day urban shots

After heading downtown to shoot the new AIA building and Archdale buildings a few days earlier, Friday proved to be an overcast, windy day. I looked outside, had a bit of time and figured it would be a good chance to revisit those sites and walk a bit in downtown Raleigh. Friday was an overcast, windy day which I figured

Zoom Zoom!

Finally, the first blog of the year! It’s been a very busy and productive start to 2012 so I’ll be blogging very intermittently. I’ve been traveling a bunch between Durham and downtown Raleigh, so during some down time the past couple of days for some quick evening long-exposures. Zoom zoom! This is the Quintiles headquarters building in Durham off the

One man’s trash

Last week I joined the Cary Photographic Artists on a shoot hosted by Wayne Dockery in Clayton, North Carolina. I’m rarely in Clayton and certainly haven’t explored it much but now I’m determined to do so more often. There are many rural treasures including this roadside heap of oxidized junk scattered into the trees. It reminded me of the hundreds

North Carolina State Fair 2011 – Full Tilt

Each year at the state fair I try to eat one food I hadn’t tried before, and somehow get one different shot. With the increasing amount gastronomically challenging foods being offered, the first is less challenging the second. As far as food is concerned, I strayed on the safe side and got some fried crawfish tails which were pretty tasty.

Western North Carolina fall photography

I intended to spend 4-5 days in the mountains of west North Carolina. In typical fashion, I went up during weekdays to avoid insane weekend crowds; nothing seems so counter to the natural beauty of autumn colors than two hours worth of traffic backup along the Blue Ridge Parkway, you know? Unfortunately, due to how early the fall colors arrived

Quick Stops in Durham

With the recent work I’ve had in Durham and Chapel Hill, I’ve had several opportunities to make a few quick stops in downtown Durham. That and I don’t like driving the rush hour traffic on I-40 in the evening… The American Tobacco District relaxing their rules regarding photographers was a welcome invite as well! I’ve been meaning to capture the

Photography on a Cloudy Day

How many times have you ever thought to yourself, “It’s cloudy and looks like it’s about to rain, I’m not going to shoot today.” Remember that as complex as photography gets, it boils down to one very simple overarching idea. Photography is the recording of light. Whether it’s the effect of light from a specific source, reflected off a surface,
