artist statement

I am an environmental photographic artist and former architectural designer who seeks personal solace in and extracts resiliency from our built surroundings. My design background is the foundation from which I analyze architecture and dissect the often self-referential urban jungle. My photography reflects melancholy for the desolation of the rural condition and quiet disintegration of abandoned buildings. The inherent beauty and vibrancy found in natural landscapes remains a continual source of wonderment. Places, similar to people, experience birth, life, and death. During all three phases I capture portraits of our physical environment by translating geometry and perceptions, interpolating intersections and contradictions, finding beauty in both designed flawlessness and inherent imperfection, and framing the active life within or haunting ghosts that remain.
