If you are reading this, you will likely receive something soon via Facebook (via page update or event invitation) or e-mail about my next show, located in downtown Raleigh on First Friday, July 2. The show, titled “Dare to Revel” will double as a benefit to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to this worthy cause.

(sales guy voice) But wait – there’s more!

There’s going to be a $10 raffle, all going to NCCADV, with all sort of great prizes including a signed, matted, and framed print of anything in my photography archive, a photo session with Simply Photography, free advertising in ArtSync Magazine, a free painting by Christopher Terrell and t-shirts designed by Magando Studios! The winners will be announed on the night of the show!

But wait there’s more!

During the entire month of July 2010, 100% of the proceeds from my art sales will be donated to the Coalition. So if you live outside of North Carolina and ever entertained the notion of purchasing my photography, what better time to do it!

The Edge Office is graciously hosting the show on 400 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. For complete details about the show the cause, and purchase raffle tickets, click the banner below!

My first book is out!

Helllooooo 2010! Okay, I wasn’t going to announce this until next week, but the publisher I’m using sort of forced my hand. My first book is officially out. Foray: An introduction to the photography of Sterling E. Stevens 2003-2009, is an abbreviated summary of my initial six-year crossover from a professional architecture background towards becoming a self-taught photographer.

I’m pleased (relieved may more appropriate) with the quality of the book being published by Blurb.com, which made this one of its “Staff Picks”. The book features a combined 129 color and black & white photos across 120 pages. It is available for purchase on Blurb’s website and costs $US 69.95 + shipping. You can even preview the entire book so you know exactly what you’re getting. Thanks for your support!

Cary’s Okay With Me!

I’m pleased to announced that the photo “This White House” was granted the Generations Brand Award at the Fine Art League of Cary 15th Annual Juried Show (cash prize woohoo!)

Hey I know Cary has a pretentious uppity reputation, but the town has given me three different awards for my photography and will be hosting my first solo show in 2010. So while they have an innate fascination with uniform red brick houses, Cary’s okay with me!

Gasp! My Own Facebook Fan Page.

Facebook Twitter Pinterest Linkedin Digg Reddit Stumbleupon Tumblr

As you may notice, my blog is now directly tied into Facebook so that everytime I update my blog, it updates into my Facebook. Neat, eh? Well, here’s something else that’s neat.

I’ve finally done it. That’s right, I’ve done it.

My obvious and overwhelming arrogance over the wee bit of attention generated with my photography has prompted me to start my own Facebook Group/Fan Page. I mean, really, how much off-putting can you get?

Okay, this is the real reason behind starting the page. It’s been a fun first 5 or 6 years doing photography and never would I have thought events would carry in their current direction. Someone obviously had better plans for my life than those I laid out for myself. However, the conundrum of marketing of my art on the internet and maintaining my Facebook profile has posed a personal conflict of interest. Therefore I’m separating my personal profile (private) from my fan profile (public).

The fan page will be used as a communication center to anyone and everyone who desires to keep updated on anything related to my photography. This means exhibit announcements, sales and giveaways, my blogs, external photo news and links, an occasional model call, and finally yes – my actual photographs. This way those who want to keep up with my fledgling photography pursuit are able to, and those who don’t won’t have to. Likewise, outsiders who want to follow my photography without knowing me personally (or freaking me out) finally can.

Though I will no longer post photography-related items to my private page, I will still continue to use that account personally to keep in touch with the people in my life including all my friends, peers, volleyball cohorts, a wayward Red Sox fan, and childhood friends who I haven’t spoken a single word with in like 15 years.

Eventually, every “friend” on my Facebook will receive an invitation to join the group, so don’t be surprised if you receive a notification as such.

So if you’re interested, that’s cool, I’ve always appreciate your support! If it’s not your cup of tea, I won’t take it personally if you don’t accept! However, I will passive-aggressively guilt-trip you with my wounded over-the-top ego, wondering why you’ve completely abandoned our Facebook friendship.
